Bed frames, air mattresses, crib and bassinet mattresses, toppers, pads, pillows, and sofa beds are not mattresses under the state program.
Not acceptedMattress recycling
Bakersfield Recycling Services is an authorized mattress recycler. Residents can drop off used mattresses and box springs at 2710 O Street at no charge during recycling center hours, Mon-Sat · 7am-4pm. California's Used Mattress Recovery and Recycling Act keeps these bulky items out of landfills by recovering the steel, foam, wood, and fabric inside them.
What to bring
Bring units that were used in California. A mattress can be all foam or a mix of foam, springs, and fabric. A futon mattress that comes off its frame counts. A box spring, also called a foundation, does too.

Mattresses, box springs, and futon mattresses that separate from the frame. Condition and age do not change the no-charge drop-off.

Keep each unit dry and whole. Do not strip the padding. Do not set mattresses on the curb, in an alley, or on vacant land. Illegal dumping is prohibited in the City of Bakersfield and in Kern County, and a mattress left outside becomes a neighborhood problem the same day.
